Adaminte Makan Abu India’s official entry for Oscars

Malayalam film "Adaminte Makan Abu", which bagged four National Awards and four Kerala state film awards including for the best film and best actor, will be India's official entry for Oscars, Film Federation of India said Friday.

Acclaimed Bengali filmmaker Buddadev Dasgupta, the chairperson for this year's jury, had said that the performance of Salim Kumar, who won the best actor award, was simply superb. "Words just cannot describe to explain the performance of Salim Kumar. Believe me, I was so surprised to see some other films of this actor and in this film he has done a great job," Dasgupta had said.

For Salim, known for his spoofs and slapstick comedy in films, it's a first in a serious role. The actor plays an old vendor who roams the streets of Malabar selling yunani medicines and 'itr' (perfume) to earn enough money to perform the Haj.

Produced under the banner of Alan Media, the film also stars yesteryears Bollywood heroine Zarina Wahab and popular Malayalam actors Mukesh, Kalabhavan Mani, Suraj Venjaramood, Nedumudu Venu, Mala Aravindan and Thampi Antony.
